ABOUT US
In Indonesia, the Joglo is a traditional Javanese house identified by its distinctive roof design. It is a gathering place, offering protection, yet open to the outdoors. It is a symbol of Indonesian hospitality that is a gift both intimate and all embracing. For this reason, the joglo has been referred to as the architectural equivalent of the banyan tree and the sacred mountain. It represents the common spirit that unites the over six thousand inhabited islands of the archipelago.

In our travels, we never cease to be amazed by Indonesia’s diversity. The antiques we collect are hybrids of Indonesia's animistic past, the Hindu and Buddhist aesthetic of the old world kingdoms, and all that lingers from the age of Imperialism and Indonesia’s Dutch, English, Portuguese, Japanese, and Chinese conquerors. The tribal art we collect is spiritually charged with magic and rituals of ancestor worship. Whether a Batak medicine horn or a Grobok bench – each piece speaks of Indonesia's story of survival. We bring back to Port Townsend what is ancient, old, and new in its raw form, and so, at an affordable price.
